MC were stimulated with IL-1{beta} (0.3 nM) and, to block endogenous NO formation, additionally with different concentrations of the NOS inhibitor L-NMMA for 24 h. In IL-1{beta}–treated MC, PDGFR{alpha} expression and NO formation (measured as nitrite, data not shown) was drastically increased (Figure 6). Co-administration of L-NMMA reduced IL-1{beta}–evoked PDGFR{alpha} expression in part (Figure 6) and blunted IL-1{beta}–induced NO formation (data not shown). We conclude from these data that endogenously produced NO at least partially triggers IL-1{beta}–driven PDGFR{alpha} expression.
